Psychiatric Treatment Guided by Your Needs
Whether you’re looking for a new psychiatrist to prescribe your medications, a second opinion, a more intensive treatment, or an intervention, Dr. Tau will partner with you to customize a psychiatric treatment plan that will help you feel better, function better, and improve those areas of your life that might feel most out of control. He will tailor his recommendations based on a holistic view of the challenges that you’re facing. He believes that it is essential to get the type and intensity of treatment just right to ensure you’ll be moving forward on your path to health and toward your clinical goals.
Comprehensive Support
for You & Your Family
To appreciate the big picture, Dr. Tau may ask you for permission to speak with important people in your life. He will also review any past records you might provide and will have you complete some clinical questionnaires. After integrating all the information, Dr. Tau will design a set of customized psychiatric treatment recommendations that offer flexible and scalable treatment levels based on your symptoms and goals.
Your treatment plan may include regular psychopharmacology and/or therapy sessions with Dr. Tau, held at a frequency that matches your clinical needs. He may recommend incorporating other clinicians (such as a therapist) and community supports (such as family, friends, or a significant other) into your treatment. More comprehensive treatment recommendations may include specialized individual therapy, after-hours support, group therapy, family therapy, parent coaching, referral to other medical doctors for your health, drug & alcohol monitoring, specialized coaching in the community, and coordination of services to ensure all the pieces of your treatment work together.

Advanced Pharmacology
Experience a sophisticated, flexible, and individualized approach to psychiatric medication management. Medication can be an effective treatment for a variety of psychiatric symptoms and conditions, including anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, panic, phobias, impulsivity, irritability, moodiness, unhealthy habits, and addictions.
Dr. Tau will make sure that your psychiatric medications do not interact with each other or with other medications or supplements you may be taking. He will make the necessary adjustments to optimize desired effects and minimize the side effects of medications. He may consult with your other doctors to ensure your medication treatment is coordinated.
In addition to regular medications, Dr. Tau can prescribe buprenorphine-containing medications (such as Suboxone®) and administer Vivitrol® in the office. Because pharmacogenomics may impact how you metabolize and experience medications and supplements, he may recommend genetic testing with Genomind® or Genesight® and collect a DNA sample in the office.
-
Parenting & Family Therapy
Families can and do impact our mental wellness. Healthy family dynamics can be a great support for a struggling individual. Therefore, family work can be an important part of the psychiatric treatment plan.
Dr. Tau may recommend one of several family support strategies. In parent coaching, he will draw from multiple strategies to help parents come up with healthy ways to engage with their child, adolescent, or young adult in a developmentally appropriate way that supports both maturation and the parent-child relationship. Parent coaching often requires communication outside scheduled meetings so parents can get support when unforeseen challenges arise.
There are times when Dr. Tau may recommend the individual in treatment and the family meet for a focused, supported discussion of an important issue. When the individual in treatment and other family members are ready, Dr. Tau may recommend ongoing family therapy to support healthy communication and perspective-taking. These sessions are best held in person, and Dr. Tau is available to facilitate meetings in the home.
Dr. Tau may communicate with patients’ families for updates and specific support. He will regularly update parents of children and tweens and may work with them in parent coaching. He will communicate less with parents of teens due to the importance of privacy across development, especially in this age group. Dr. Tau may also communicate with and update the families of emerging and young adults based on their clinical needs and wishes.

Team Building & Collaborative Care
When your clinical needs transcend our services, your customized psychiatric treatment plan may include supports outside the practice. Dr. Tau may recommend that you also have specialized individual therapy (e.g., trauma treatment or ExRP), specialized group therapy (e.g., DBT or relapse prevention), drug & alcohol monitoring, coaching services (e.g., sober coaching, wellness coaching, or executive function/organizational coaching), family/parenting support, neuropsychological testing, or additional medical services.
For you to get the full benefits of the support provided by different people and organizations, all the parts need to work together. Collaborative care is essential whether you’re working only with Dr. Tau, together with a separate therapist, or have a larger team of supports.
Dr. Tau will reach out to your other supports and work on synchronizing the different aspects of your treatment. When needed, he may organize team calls and provide case coordination to ensure your providers' alignment and accountability, delivering you the highest standard of care. This hands-on approach will promote the integration of your overall treatment.

Spravato® Esketamine Treatment
If you’re struggling to get relief from depression, you may be a candidate for Spravato® (esketamine) therapy. Spravato® is an FDA-approved prescription medication for depression that hasn’t responded to antidepressant medicines (Treatment-Resistant Depression), Major Depressive Disorder, and suicidal thoughts and actions. Spravato® has been clinically shown to rapidly decrease the symptoms of depression, inducing suicidality.
Spravato® esketamine therapy is administered as a nasal spray under Dr. Tau’s medical supervision in his office. The initial treatment typically consists of two sessions a week for a month, followed by weekly Spravato® sessions. Together, we will then come up with a maintenance therapy schedule that’s right for you.
